Owen Hargreaves says manager linked with Spurs is 'such a super coach'
Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Brendan Rodgers has been described by Owen Hargreaves as a “super coach” who deserves Champions League football.
Spurs remain in the hunt for a new manager after sacking Jose Mourinho in April, with Ryan Mason having held the reins until the end of the season.
Numerous managers have been linked with the Tottenham hotseat, and Rodgers has been a regular on the rumour mill with regards to the role.
The 48-year-old has worked wonders at Leicester over the past few years and lifted the FA Cup – the first in the club’s history – earlier this month.
However, he has failed to secure Champions League qualification on the final day of the Premier League season for the second year in a row.
Spurs took on the Foxes at the King Power Stadium in Sunday’s league finale and ran out 4-2 winners, with Harry Kane, Gareth Bale’s brace and Kasper Schmeichel’s own goal consigning the hosts to fifth place.
“They want to be in the Champions League, they’ll be disappointed, Brendan Rodgers deserves to be in the Champions League as a coach, he is such a super coach,” Hargreaves said on Optus Sport.
“They’ll be disappointed – I still think they’ve massively overachieved, even being there, winning the FA Cup, but getting close and not finishing the job they’ll definitely be disappointed.”
Rodgers has worked wonders at Leicester and it’s little surprise to see him linked with Spurs, a club with big ambitions that’s in need of a rebuilding job.
That said, the Foxes are a club on the up, with a great squad and an owner who supports Rodgers fully – it would make no sense for him to leave for a club that’s currently in a worse place.
