Owen Hargreaves thinks Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag needs to stop ‘falling out’ with his players.

Speaking on TalkSPORT (12/12 9:14 am), the former Manchester United midfielder raised concerns over the morale in the United dressing room at the moment.

Erik ten Hag is currently going through a tough spell at Old Trafford, having suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Saturday.

Many expected the Red Devils to kick on from last season after a third-place finish and lifting the League Cup. But United are performing way below expectations as Ten Hag currently has them sitting in sixth place – 10 points of league leaders Liverpool and six behind fourth.

Much has been made of Ten Hag’s man management so far this season, particularly when it comes to the likes of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

And Owen Hargreaves feels the Dutchman needs to avoid any further falling outs if he is to get United back on track.

Hargreaves thinks Ten Hag is making one big mistake at Man United

Hargreaves feels Ten Hag and the current United squad need to ‘stick together’ and put the club first.

“He’s [Ten Hag] consistently falling out with players you know, [Anthony] Martial looks pretty moody at times, Marcus Rashford’s not playing at his best,” he said. “He looks like he’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders.

“Falling out with players, it can’t happen anymore, everybody’s got to stick together, it doesn’t matter about the manager or the players, it matters about the football club getting back to the best.”

Sancho’s falling out with Ten Hag has been well-documented after the winger hit out at his boss on social media back in early September. It came after the United boss publicly commented on his below-par training performances.

The Englishman has since been banished from the first team after refusing to apologise.

As for Varane, the centre-back has struggled for starts at United this season and it remains unclear as to why he’s fallen down the pecking order.

It’s no secret that Ten Hag is short of options at quality centre-back at the moment due to Lisandro Martinez’s injury.

Varane has been one of their standout performers when fit and it feels like United could do with his experience at the moment.

The pressure has ramped up on Ten Hag in recent weeks, despite picking up the Premier League’s Manager of the Month in November.

Indeed, John Obi Mikel thinks United’s players want the former Ajax man gone.

While Ten Hag has every right to stamp his authority on the current squad, Hargreaves may have a point about avoiding any more problems with his players for the time being.

There have been some concerning reports on the United dressing room of late and Ten Hag will have to keep his players on board if he’s to keep his position at the club.
