Owen Hargreaves says £35m Liverpool player is even better than Alexis Mac Allister at pressing

Liverpool have been incredibly impressive at the start of this season under Arne Slot.

The Reds have won all three of their opening Premier League games without even conceding a goal, and many of their players have really stepped up so far.

Ryan Gravenberch has earned plaudits for his recent performances, and speaking on the Kelly and Wrighty Show, Owen Hargreaves has chipped in with some special praise of his own.

Hargreaves was debating how Gravenberch suits the defensive midfield role in this Liverpool team, and he says that the Dutchman doesn’t necessarily need to be a great number six, he just needs to be a good presser.

Interestingly, Hargreaves said that Gravenberch is the best presser in the Liverpool midfield ahead of both Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

Ryan Gravenberch is Liverpool’s best pressing midfielder

Hargreaves shared his verdict on the £35m midfielder.

“You don’t have to be a brilliant defensive midfield player, you just have to be good at pressing. Which I think Gravenberch, of the three, I think he’s probably the best of those three,” Hargreaves said.

Liverpool’s midfield is working

There was a lot of chat this summer about how Liverpool needed a recognised defensive midfield player.

However, despite failing to sign Martin Zubimendi, the Reds’ midfield is working perfectly.

Gravenberch, Szoboszlai and Mac Allister all appear to be playing their very best football at the moment, and it’s fair to say that this trio could be something special.

Of course, playing without a recognised defensive midfielder will be a problem in some games, but if the Reds can continue to dominate games without having an anchoring midfield player, perhaps they won’t need to dip into the market in January.

Liverpool have a very exciting season ahead of them, and it’s fair to say the Arne Slot era has got off on the right foot.

This could be a remarkable season for Liverpool under their new manager.
