Owen Hargreaves raves about one Celtic player, despite defeat to Betis

Owen Hargreaves has raved about new Celtic signing Filipe Jota during BT Sport’s Europa League highlights show – despite a feat to Real Betis.

Jota, 22, was handed just his second Celtic appearance on Thursday night since joining the club from Benfica on a loan-to-buy deal in August.

He started on the right of a makeshift front three, alongside Albian Ajeti and Adam Montgomery. But he made the first meaningful pass.

Picking up the ball on the right, Jota curled a right-footed cross into the box which Ajeti managed to bundle home. Celtic, though, eventually lost 4-3.

Hargreaves watched on and in his analysis on BT Sport, raved about Celtic’s new signing – labelling him a handful all night against Betis.

“I’ll tell you what, Jota was a handful all game, terrific. Step overs, trickery, bit of pace. Puts in a perfect ball for Ajeti,” Hargreaves said.

Hargreaves on Jota: Celtic winger could be the pick of the bunch

Ange Postecoglou has been busy in the transfer window. Working with the recently-resigned Dom McKay, they have brought in plenty of players.

Joe Hart has been excellent between the sticks, even captaining Celtic on Thursday night. Kyogo Furuhashi has certainly been the best addition.

James McCarthy is an astute addition, while Josip Juranovic looks good – scoring a penalty against Betis. But Jota might just be the best addition.

Celtic have lacked a bit of trickery out wide ever since Patrick Roberts left the club. Jota re-installs that into a Celtic side in need of some flair.

He is the kind of player Celtic fans will want to come and watch. James Forrest will do well to win his place back in the starting XI.
