BT Sport pundit and former Manchester United midfielder, Owen Hargreaves, has praised Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny for his display at Newcastle today.

The combative midfielder got the Gunners underway at St James’ Park today with a rare goal in Arsenal red. It was the Egyptian star’s first Premier League goal of the season, although he has two in Europe as well.

And speaking on BT Sport following the game, Hargreaves praised Elneny for giving Arsenal something different in the midfield area.

“I like Elneny – he gives Arsenal something different. He’s more rugged but I think this Arsenal team needs that. If he can add goals too, that’s the icing on the cake,” Hargreaves commented on Elneny.

Elneny has played an important role this season for the Gunners as a squad player. Mikel Artet also praised his midfielder after the game, highlighting his team ethic attitude as a key trait in his game and personality.

Having put in such a good performance, Elneny might have just played himself into being a guaranteed starter for the midweek clash with Villarreal.

Mo Elneny is just one of those reliable players who all squads need. But importantly, he’s also got sufficient quality with and without the ball to fully justify his inclusion in the XI.

He was excellent today and if Arsenal are to win the Europa League, you have a feeling Elneny could well end up playing an important role.
