‘I’d have him starting’: Owen Hargreaves says Arsenal have a ‘fabulous’ young player who should play in Qatar

Owen Hargreaves has said he hopes Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka doesn’t have a bad injury as he’d be starting him for England this winter.

Saka is set to be part of Gareth Southgate’s squad to go to Qatar for the World Cup. The Arsenal man has been in fine form all season so far. He is one of a number of attacking options England have at their disposal.

However, Saka picked up an injury while playing against Nottingham Forest yesterday. It led to Mikel Arteta taking him off in the first half.

And Hargreaves, who was watching the game for PremierLeague.com, said he hopes Saka isn’t out for long as he praised his ability.

“Bukayo Saka is such a fabulous young player. I think he twists his ankle as he falls with Renan Lodi just trying to tackle him. Let’s hope it’s not too serious because I’d have him starting on the right for England,” Hargreaves said on Premier League productions.

Saka’s form has been a key contributing factor to the Gunners going top of the table. He laid on the opening goal for Gabi Martinelli yesterday as well.

TBR’s View: Saka injury shouldn’t be serious, and he does play for England

It’s hard to make a case against Saka starting for England really. He has been that good for Arsenal that it would almost be baffling if Southgate left him out.

Of course, The Three Lions are blessed with good players in those attacking positions. But Saka has shown with Arsenal that he is someone who can be trusted. He works hard defensively but crucially, his attacking output is good as well.

Hopefully. for Arsenal and England, Saka’s injury is nothing more than a knock. Mikel Arteta seemed confident yesterday that he’d be fine. And with the World Cup just weeks away, England will be hoping that is the case.
