A number of Sunderland fans have praised Lynden Gooch’s display for the Black Cats in today’s League One win on the road.
Phil Parkinson’s charges laboured in their meeting with Gillingham but two late goals for the visitors saw them get back to winning ways after a draw and a loss in their last two games.
Sunderland struggled early on at Priestfield but found their way into the game, Josh Scowen blazing over the bar and Luke O’Nien seeing a goal disallowed for offside.

In the second half, the hosts were awarded a penalty which Lee Burge kept out, and Alex MacDonald was issued a straight red moments later for a poor challenge on O’Nien.
Aiden O’Brien and Scowen spurned two more great chances but Sunderland were given the chance to break the deadlock six minutes from time.
Charlie Wyke was brought down in the box for a penalty, and Chris Maguire made no mistake from 12 yards.
Gooch put in a great display, tirelessly pressing the opposition, and was rewarded with the game’s second goal in injury time, a well-taken breakaway effort.
