'Outstanding talent': Some Sunderland fans wowed by 19-year-old's Tuesday display

Some Sunderland fans have been praising Dan Neil on Twitter following his bright display in Tuesday’s pre-season friendly.

The Black Cats played out a 0-0 draw away at Tranmere and the 19-year-old did well for the visitors.

Sunderland boss Lee Johnson named a young side for the trip to Prenton Park.

The Wearsiders looked lively but lacked a goalscoring touch and didn’t provide too much of a test for Joe Murphy in the Rovers goal.

Aiden O’Brien had a number of opportunities to break the deadlock, while Neil weighed in with a 25-yard effort that Murphy did well to claim.

Neil was strong in the middle of the park and provided some neat deliveries for his teammates, who sadly didn’t make the most of them.

And some Sunderland fans feel Neil has a bright future at the club, urging Johnson to make him a regular next term.

Sunderland fans react to Dan Neil’s display:

Neil netted his first senior goal for the Black Cats in the 1-1 draw at York City and has started all of the club’s pre-season games thus far.
