'Outstanding': Chris Sutton impressed by Celtic target Uche Ikpeazu

Hearts striker Uche Ikpeazu impressed Chris Sutton after his display against Rangers.

Ikpeazu, who has been linked with Celtic, led the line for Hearts against Rangers at Tynecastle. In the Sunday early kick-off, Hearts held Rangers to a 1-1 draw, allowing Celtic to finish the weekend at the top.

Both the league position and the performance of Ikpeazu impressed Sutton. The former Celtic striker appears to have given his seal of approval if Celtic go ahead with a concrete move for Ikpeazu.

According to West London Sport, Celtic, QPR, Derby County and others are keen on the 6ft 3in powerhouse. His display against the Rangers back-line showed that he might be a shrewd purchase.

After Hearts drew 1-1 with Rangers, Sutton took to Twitter and said: “Cracking game at Tynecastle. Honours even. Ikpeazu outstanding…Hearts 1-1 Rangers…Celtic stay top.”

Ikpeazu did not get on the scoresheet but he caused problems with his pace and power. The 24-year-old gave Nikola Katic a tough afternoon.

TBR’s view

Ikpeazu’s performance might just have earned him a place on Celtic’s wishlist this January. He offers something different with his unique threat of power and aerial dominance.

The ex-Watford and Cambridge United striker might not be prolific but he improves the players around him. He is a nightmare to mark and Celtic could well be taking a closer look at him now.
