‘Outgoings but no incomings or manager’ – Newcastle fans react as Liam Gibson leaves on loan

Liam Gibson will be on loan until January 2020.

Newcastle United youngster Liam Gibson is leaving the club on loan. On the club’s official website, Newcastle confirmed that Gibson was heading on loan to Grimsby Town.

Gibson joins the League Two club on loan until January 2020. He will return to Newcastle on January 4 when another decision will be made on his future.

The 22-year-old’s progress at Newcastle was hampered as he missed more than a year with a serious illness but he recovered and got playing time under his belt last season.

Gibson played 21 times for Newcastle’s U21 side before gaining some senior experience out on loan. In January 2019, he moved to Accrington Stanley on loan and played five times.

This was his second loan spell – he also played for Gateshead in a temporary stint in 2015. Gibson has never played a senior game for Newcastle and this loan spell could be make-or-break. He turns 23 at the end of this season and he will need to be pushing for a first-team spot.

Newcastle exodus continues

After Gibson departed, Newcastle fans once again vented their frustration. Rafa Benitez has left and Ayoze Perez has followed. Salomon Rondon does not look like coming back while Sean Longstaff, Fabian Schar and Isaac Hayden are among the first-team stars who could also leave.

It is all miserable at the moment for Newcastle, who are without a manager and the recruitment drive is weak. Here are some tweets from frustrated fans after Gibson was loaned out.
