Out-on-loan Tottenham star shines on European stage for Celtic, 2-0 win on Tuesday

Cameron Carter-Vickers was crucial for Celtic on Tuesday as the on-loan Tottenham star helped them get their first European points of the season.

Having suffered defeats to Real Betis and Bayer Leverkusen in the first two games – Celtic had to beat Hungarian outfit Ferencvaros at Parkhead.

They did that, finally. A pinpoint, driven pass from Jota found Kyogo Furuhashi – who finished with aplomb on 57 minutes to put Celtic 1-0 up.

It was 2-0 not long after. Callum McGregor missed a penalty, but he won the ball back later on – feeding Jota, who squared to David Turnbull to score.

Carter-Vickers was colossal at the back. Alongside struggling Sweden international Carl Starfelt, the USA powerhouse was a tower in defence.

WhoScored say he produced seven clearances, more than any of his teammates, and just as many interceptions as any other with two.

Two tackles, a blocked shot and 95 of his 102 passes were successful – 93%. A monstrous display from the £20k-a-week (Spotrac) Tottenham star.

Out of contract at the end of the season, Celtic will be able to sign Carter-Vickers on a pre-contract agreement from January – if there is no new deal.

Under the Bosman ruling, overseas clubs can sign England-based players. That is, if their contract is due to expire that summer – from January 1.

That includes Scottish clubs. It means Carter-Vickers can sign a pre-contract, even though he remains on loan. It is a no-brainer, after Tuesday.
