Marko Grujic has told The Liverpool Echo that he misses Liverpool and is desperate to pull on the red shirt again, as he continues to shine on loan at German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin for a second successive season.
Grujic, 23, went on loan to Hertha last season as he struggled for game time at Anfield. The £5.1million signing (Guardian) from Red Star Belgrade scored five goals and laid on an assist in 23 outings last term from central midfield.
This time around, he has started in excellent form – scoring two and creating another in eight outings. He has cemented himself as first choice in the Hertha midfield, and one of his two goals came in a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich.
Grujic’s focus seems to be on gaining development at Hertha rather than leaving Liverpool permanently, and the Serbia international also spoke of how he is texting Jurgen Klopp and loan manager Julian Ward.

“It’s not easy to become a part of the Liverpool squad, I can see myself in the red shirt but I have to become more experienced before I can wear it again,” Grujic said. “I want to be ready for Liverpool so I will have a chance to get into the team.
“Klopp and I are texting regularly. I am also in close contact with the Liverpool loan-manager (Julian Ward), he watches every game that I’m in and we’re texting afterwards. Sometimes I miss Liverpool, of course.”
TBR’s view – Does Grujic have a future at Liverpool?
The midfielder certainly has the talent to become a squad player at Liverpool, but Klopp’s midfield is so strong with some bog personalities included, that it will take a mammoth effort to break into the side.
Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita, Fabinho, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Those names boast quality, work rate, experience, attacking and defensive know-how and most concerning for Grujic – strength in depth.
Milner looks as though he may sign a new deal at Liverpool, meaning Grujic may have to wait a bit longer or decide to finally leave Liverpool for good. He needs an incredible season in Germany, or he can kiss his chances goodbye.
