Out-on-loan Arsenal player gets 2/10 rating, at fault for two goals in 3-2 defeat

Arsenal ace William Saliba had a weekend to forget after a dismal Sunday display that was directly to blame for Marseille’s 3-2 defeat to Lens.

Saliba, 20, is turning out for his third French club after joining Arsenal in the summer of 2019 for a fee of £27million from St. Etienne.

He remains an Arsenal player despite being yet to make his senior debut. During the second half of last season, he joined Nice on loan.

Clocking up 22 outings, his decent form has earned him a season-long spell at Marseille. He has started six of their seven Ligue 1 matches so far.

But he might face the chop after Sunday’s display. Get French Football News handed the France Under-21 star a 2/10 rating for his dismal showing.

Saliba 2/10: Arsenal man deserves critics after Marseille display

Marseille suffered a shock home defeat to Lens, with Saliba at fault for two of the goals. Matteo Guendouzi also played in the loss at Marseille’s home.

Firstly, his shocking pass inside his own penalty saw Lens win a penalty. Then, for the winner, he let the attacker get across him.

His lazy, not-fussed attitude to defending has saw him earn a dismal 2/10 rating – with Marseille conceding three, when it could have been more.

With Mikel Arteta’s side finally starting to find the right balance in defence, Saliba’s poor form could not have come at a worse time.

Arteta is renowned for being unconvinced by Saliba. Ben White and Gabriel are combining well, leaving Saliba more likely to be left in the cold.
