Moussa Sissoko has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal at Tottenham Hotspur after winning last season’s Player of the Year award – and out-of-contract defender Jan Vertonghen has applauded the midfielder on Instagram.
Sissoko, 30, was moved into the middle of the park last season by Mauricio Pochettino after struggling in his first two seasons with the north London club following his £30million move from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016.
France international Sissoko was sensational for the north London club, providing the spark in the Champions League ties against Manchester City and proving to be a real driving force from deep in midfield.
Despite the signing of Tanguy Ndombele, it looks as though Sissoko remains first choice in the Spurs side as Pochettino combines a midfield three of Harry Winks and the two French stars in front of the England international.
Vertonghen, whose contract expires next summer, along with Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen, reacted on Instagram.
TBR’s view – Will Sissoko be the start of multiple Tottenham deals?
The morale is down at Tottenham right now, and Daniel Levy has been known in the past to agree multiple new deals with some of his star players in quick succession.
Though it remains if Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Eriksen will extend their expiring contracts, getting those with two years left on their contracts may inject some positivity. Eric Dier, Oliver Skipp, Danny Rose and Victor Wanyama all have contracts until 2021.
