'Our Sergio Aguero': Some Liverpool fans wowed by Anfield man's latest display for his country
Liverpool fans have waxed lyrical about Diogo Jota’s latest masterclass for Portugal in their latest World Cup qualifier.
The Reds forward registered a goal and an assist as the Euro 2016 champions ran out 3-0 winners in Azerbaijan on Tuesday.
Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and RB Leipzig’s Andre Silva also scored in the routine victory in Baku.
After setting up Silva’s opener on 26 minutes, Jota headed home in the 75th minute for his eighth goal in 21 international outings.
Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t in the squad but the Liverpool star stepped up superbly in his absence, causing no end of trouble for the opposition.
And Liverpool fans were delighted with how Jota performed:
Diogo Jota is literally going to be our Sergio Aguero.— Anfield Opinion™ (@AnfieldOpinion6) September 7, 2021
Get the feeling that Diogo Jota is going to have a very special season.— Positive LFC Tweets (@30YearsRed) September 7, 2021
I'm forever astounded by how much better he is than I thought he was.
It doesn’t matter if he’s drifting in and out of a game or looks poor, Jota will still have the ability to bag a goal regardless.— Laurie (@LFCLaurie) September 7, 2021
He has that inevitability about him. Have to love it.
he should be a permanent number in our team regardless if Firmino is there or not, Just too good to be sitting on the bench.— Chandy (@chandy_1) September 8, 2021
Diogo Jota:— Ritson (@RitsonLFC) September 7, 2021
– 1 goal
– 1 assist
– 4 chances created
– 5/7 successful dribbles
– 9/15 duels won
But ofc all rival fans especially United want to slander him every time he misplaces a pass or touch, keep crying he’s inevitable
Jota has been superb for Jurgen Klopp’s side since his £41million move from Wolves last September.
The Portuguese was sidelined from early December to late February due to a knee injury, and the Reds missed him badly.
A foot injury late on in the season then meant Jota missed two of the last three games of 2020-21.
Now fit again, Jota has hit the ground running this season, with two goals from Liverpool’s first three games.
And his international break ends with a goal and two assists, having contributed to a goal in the 3-1 friendly win over Qatar.
