'Our owners aren’t stupid': Some Villa fans 'hope' this transfer update on Grealish is 'not true'
Jack Grealish reportedly has a buy-out clause in his Aston Villa contract.
According to the Daily Mail, the England international has a clause in his deal with the Villains. Moreover, as reported by the Athletic, Manchester City are interested in Grealish, who Villa value at £100m.
Indeed, Grealish’s future is up in the air as Pep Guardiola’s side continue to be linked with the 25-year-old playmaker. The Villa no. 10 signed a new long-term deal with his boyhood club last year.
Furthermore, Villa have been active in the transfer market already this summer. Dean Smith’s side have already signed Emi Buendia for a club-record fee. Whilst the Athletic also report that the Birmingham club had a second bid rejected for Emile Smith Rowe.
Indeed, these transfer moves seem to indicate that Smith is plotting for life after Grealish leaves Villa. And on social media, fans were hoping that news of a buy-out clause in their captain’s contract is not true.
Here’s what some Villa supporters had to say on Twitter about the latest update surrounding Grealish and his contract…
Our owners aren’t stupid they wouldn’t put a secret buy out clause on him— George (@BarronAVFC1) June 28, 2021
Being realistic, at 24 pushing 25 Jack wasn’t going to sign a 5 year deal at Villa without some form of reassurances he could leave on certain terms.— Trezzy (@MTrezzy1981) June 28, 2021
I did think when he signed the contract last year there must have been a clause and Sky at the time reported it as being “huge” I hope it’s not true as it removes all of our bargaining power— John Chambers (@JohnCha00458074) June 28, 2021
Yet people believe he has undying loyalty to the club. Any player who insists on a release clause really isn't loyal.— J Stewart (@JStewar23866263) June 28, 2021
Seems plausible as Jack would want to protect the club!If he does ask to leave that’s his 10% of the fee also handed back to the club!Feel it’s going to happen for over £100m as far too much traction in the media for it not to be the case!Be gutted but we move on regardless— iain ankcorn (@iainankcorn) June 28, 2021
However, as reported by Sky Sports News, Villa have opened talks with Grealish over a new contract.
