Tottenham legend Ozzie Ardiles believes his former club should offload Danish playmaker Christian Eriksen this summer.
Ardiles told TalkSport that he doesn’t think Eriksen is unhappy at Tottenham, but he has his mind set on a move away this summer – and that Spurs should let him leave.
He said: “It looks to me like he has put his mind on a move, that he wants to go somewhere else. And if that is the case it’s futile for the club to try and keep a player when he wants to leave.
“I won’t say he’s not happy with us, because he is, but his mind is trying to play somewhere else, and the best thing is to part company.”
Eriksen is a good professional and if he doesn’t let his contract situation impact his performances – just like Toby Alderwerield this season – then he still has a Tottenham future.
But if his heart isn’t really in it, there’s no point having him around. That would be the case even if he didn’t have one year left on his contract – this summer represents Tottenham’s final chance to get a transfer fee in for Eriksen, in truth.
But Tottenham don’t want Eriksen to be problematic during a season in which they can finally push on, having strengthened their squad in the shape of Tanguy Ndombele.
