Ossie Ardiles has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that he is so proud of Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, particularly given that he had to bounce back from picking up an injury shortly after his arrival in England.

Lo Celso has arguably been the most impressive player within Tottenham’s squad since Jose Mourinho’s appointment. He has been superb, particularly since the turn of the year.

But his current run of form may have come as something of a surprise to some Spurs fans. He only made a handful of appearances during the opening weeks of the campaign, and did not make his first start until November.

That was largely down to an injury sustained on international duty. But he is now back playing – and Ardiles has lauded the way that Lo Celso has proved any doubters wrong.

“The first thing I’d like to say about Giovani is that I’m very proud of him,” he told the club’s official website. “Suddenly, when he came here to Spurs, he had one of the worst things that can happen to you as a footballer when you first arrive in a new club – he got injured.

“However, he started to play more regularly and, immediately, he made an impact. He’s a very sensible player, he knows what he’s doing all the time, he’s clever and so on. Little by little, I have to say, he’s adapted to the pace of the game here extremely well. Right now, it doesn’t look like he has any problems with that at all.”

TBR View – Lo Celso set to be key man for Spurs for years to come

It was no surprise to see Tottenham make his move permanent during the January transfer window. And he has vindicated their decision with some superb performances.

The 23-year-old looks set to be a key part of Spurs’ future for a number of years.

And it appears that Ardiles is optimistic that he can become the latest Argentinian to secure his spot in Tottenham folklore during his time in North London.
