Ornstein shares Arsenal target Raphinha stance on leaving Barcelona

Journalist David Ornstein has told NBC Sports that he understands that Raphinha wants to stay at Barcelona amid reports that Arsenal have already made contact about a move for the Brazilian.

The Gunners have turned their attention to the 26-year-old after missing out on Mykhaylo Mudryk. The Ukrainian has joined Chelsea after months of speculation linking him with a move to the Emirates.

Arsenal dug their heels in over the price. And with that, they are now looking elsewhere. According to a report from Sport Italia on Saturday, Arsenal have already made contact with Raphinha about a potential move.

Raphinha only joined Barcelona in the summer. However, he has not had the easiest time since making the switch. He has only made seven starts in La Liga, coming off the bench eight times.

Nevertheless, Ornstein believes that the forward is not going to push for a move away in this window. He suggested that he wishes to stay at Camp Nou.

“Already you’re seeing reports around Raphinha, who they went for last summer. My understanding is that his priority is to remain at Barcelona despite their financial position,” he told NBC Sports.

The financial position is an interesting point. That will surely come into Barcelona’s thinking should they receive any significant offers for any of their players in this window.

And that will include Raphinha. He has probably not lived up to expectations since moving to Spain from Leeds for £55 million at the end of last season.

That should not put Arsenal off however. He was ‘unbelievable‘ in the Premier League before his switch. He was the Whites’ top goalscorer last season. And he was the one player who did the most to keep the club in the top-flight.

He had that ability to get fans out of their seats. And he is definitely a potential game-changer.

If a deal is possible, it could be a no-brainer for Arsenal. But, judging by Ornstein’s comments, the Gunners require a change of heart from the player himself.
