Aston Villa have completed the signature of Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland from FC Ingolstadt. The club have paid a reported £1 million for the player, who has 27 caps for his nation. He becomes Aston Villa’s first permanent signing of a tumultuous summer.
He also becomes Aston Villa’s fourth first-team goalkeeper. The club lost loanee Sam Johnstone in the summer. Jed Steer, who has thrived on loan in the Championship previously, now looks set to get a chance as the number one. Fellow newbie Andre Moreira arrived last week on loan from Benfica.
The moves make sense. Whilst Steer is a capable stopper, his recent injury record suggests Aston Villa must prepare for the worst.
But what about Mark Bunn?

The 33-year-old now appears to be Aston Villa’s third-choice keeper. Initially targeted as a Bosman by his former Norwich City boss Paul Lambert he still joined Aston Villa in the summer of 2015 under Tim Sherwood.
However, he has failed to establish himself as a number one at Villa Park. In his three seasons at the club, Bunn has played 20 times.
With three new goalkeepers present the 33-year-old must surely be considering his future at Aston Villa.
Meanwhile, the club will no doubt want his wages off the books. Bunn’s contract was surprisingly renewed this summer. It looks unlikely that will happen again in 12 months time.
