Sergio Reguilon was recently left out of the pre-season tour of South Korea by Antonio Conte and it may be the clearest indication yet that the Spaniard doesn’t feature in his plans for the coming season.
The 25-year-old was one of four players left out of the 28-man squad by the Tottenham boss. And according to the Daily Mail, Sevilla are one of the clubs showing interest in him.
But is this good or bad news for Tottenham fans? The Spaniard arrived in North London with a lot of promise off the back of an impressive campaign at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium in 2019-20.
He arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020, with a reported buy-back fee of £27.5 million for the Spanish giants (BBC).

The Spurs defender played for Sevilla during a season-long loan spell in the 2019-20 campaign and was a key player in the team that won the Europa League.
Reguilon made a decent start for Spurs in a back four under Jose Mourinho and many fans will remember his electrifying pace that was on show in his debut against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals in September 2020.

But in what was a chaotic year at the club, Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho and brought in Ryan Mason as a caretaker until the end of the season. His own goal in a home defeat against Aston Villa summed up what was a unusual period for the player and club.
He’s a player that boasts brilliant qualities, particularly his pace, but can often play in an erratic way. Some would argue that he’s been the victim of what had been a topsy turvy period at Spurs following the dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino back in 2019.
But after his mixed debut season, the club then hired Nuno Espirito Santo ahead of the 2021-22 season. The Portugeuse manager was soon dismissed however after 10 Premier League games and in came Antonio Conte.

The Italian demands a lot from his wing-backs as they are seen as key components in his system. And during Reguilon’s time under him, he has never really seemed to fit the bill.
The Spaniard made a promising start under Conte in the wing-back role but has since fallen down the pecking order at the club. The Italian showed a preference for Ryan Sessegnon towards the end of last season.
Conte has also brought in Croatian veteran Ivan Perisic on a free transfer, so it seems Reguilon’s days in North London may be numbered.
With his former club Sevilla showing interest this summer, it seems like it may be time for Reguilon to move on.
It just hasn’t quite worked out for him at Spurs and that may be down to his suitability to play in Conte’s wing-back role. He made a decent start to his Tottenham career but it appears he is more suited to playing in a back four.
