Opinion: Spurs must not waste time in signing '10/10' CB amid Conte talk, could cost less than £20m
As far as Spurs transfers go this summer, Tottenham could have a lot of work to do.
Spurs had big hopes this season but finished without a trophy and without Champions League qualification.
Indeed, Tottenham only got into Europe because UEFA created a new third-tier competition, the Conference League.
Spurs’ defence has let the side down this season, so Daniel Levy must look to bolster the ranks whilst looking for a new manager.
Tottenham are apparently after Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard, as per speculation over recent months, and he’d be a top signing.
Vestergaard is entering the final year of his contract at St Mary’s as speculation on his future begins to grow.
The 28-year-old was in action for Denmark against Germany on Wednesday night, and he did well in the friendly.
Danish outlet DR gave Vestergaard a 10/10 rating for his display in the pre-Euro 2020 clash.
“With the newly crowned CL winner Andreas Christensen resting in the stands, there was room in the starting line-up for tall Jannik Vestergaard, who took the opportunity to strongly recommend himself to national coach Hjulmand,” they wrote.
“The stopper was Southampton was by far the best Dane before the break with consistent interventions and a couple of fine balls played out from the back line – and he kept the level all the way to the last whistle.”
Better still, TEAMtalk have reported that Vestergaard may cost as little as £18million.
Therefore, as far as Spurs transfer targets go, they must not waste any time with Vestergaard.
They must get this deal wrapped up before Euro 2020 could put him in the shop window.
