Opinion: Mikel Arteta must unleash 'the next Pirlo' in Arsenal's last Premier League game of the season
So, here we are – a season that promised so much for Arsenal has delivered very little in the end.
The makings of a great campaign were there – Mikel Arteta’s first full season, two trophies in August, a number of exciting signings, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signing a new contract.
However, with one game left in the Premier League, the best Arsenal can hope for now is qualifying for the inaugural Europa Conference League, the third tier of European competition.
That said, there have been some positives this season in the shape of young players who could well be the building blocks for Arsenal to get back to their best.
Bukayo Saka has built on his impressive 2019-20 campaign to become a bona fide superstar, Kieran Tierney is also looking world-class, and Emile Smith Rowe has finally made his breakthrough.
And with little to play for in the final game of the season, it’s a great opportunity for Arteta to give game time to some of Hale End’s most promising talents.
With both Martin Odegaard and Martin Ceballos likely to return to Real Madrid this summer, Miguel Azeez should be given a chance to impress.
The 18-year-old is a dynamic midfielder equally skilled as an anchorman as he is playing at No. 10, and is also viewed as a natural leader and captain material.
He was playing for Arsenal’s Under-18s when he was 15 and didn’t look out of his depth in the slightest, so much so that, by the time he was 17, he was captaining the team.
Azeez has been in and around the first team this season, taking part in training sessions, and made his senior debut in December’s Europa League win over Dundalk.
He is yet to play in the Premier League, so what better occasion to make his top-flight bow than at the Emirates Stadium against a tricky opponent in Brighton?
Arsenal fans have high hopes for Azeez and some have even compared him to two of the best midfielders to play the game – Andrea Pirlo and Andres Iniesta.
Azeez is definitely the next Pirlo

Azeez is so elegant in possession, mixture of Iniesta’s close control and Pirlo’s range and reading of play. Azeez is headed to the top. pic.twitter.com/jVYgMojStH

Is Miguel Azeez a creative mf in the mould of ESR?
Honestly thought he was a deep-lying playmaker à la Pirlo, dare I even say Xhaka!
