‘Oozes class’, ‘brilliant’: Some Everton fans blown away by 19-year-old’s display last night

A number of Everton fans have taken to Twitter to praise Anthony Gordon’s display as Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees progressed to the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Everton ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over League Two Salford City at Goodison Park.

Playing in front of Niels Nkounkou, Gordon was a constant thorn in the opposition’s side with his pace, acceleration and confidence in front of goal, ultimately being unlucky not to get on the scoresheet.

One powerful effort in the first half was headed behind by a Salford defender, and more attempts came after the interval, including one that rattled the woodwork.

And plenty of Evertonians were delighted to see their home-grown star put in such a good display, praising his efforts on social media:

Goals from Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Moise Kean ensured that Everton cruised into the next round, where League One Fleetwood Town await the Merseysiders.

The Toffees are back in Premier League action in Saturday’s early kick-off as they host newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion at Goodison Park.
