‘Only positive’: Some Everton fans laud Jordan Pickford despite 5-0 Man City loss

Some Everton fans have been lauding Jordan Pickford on social media after the goalkeeper delivered a strong performance in defeat to Manchester City on the final day of the season.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees were beaten comprehensively by Pep Guardiola’s champions as the Sky Blues ran out 5-0 victors, with Sergio Aguero saying his goodbyes to the Etihad Stadium with a brace from the bench.

Man City found themselves two ahead inside the opening quarter of an hour after early goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus, before Phil Foden ended any hopes of a comeback for the away side early in the second half.

Aguero came close to bagging a hat-trick in the final stages only to be denied when Pickford got down well to keep out the Argentine’s powerful header, having already pushed away a confident strike moments early.

Raheem Sterling would have felt confident he was about to score in the closing period of the first half, too, only for Pickford to come off his line and do well to block his compatriot after a defence-splitting pass between two players from De Bruyne, although the offside flag was raised.

De Bruyne also found himself denied his second by Pickford midway through the first half, to see that the goalkeeper received some praise on a torrid final day of the season for Everton supporters.
