Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have received a boost in their quest to sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

That is according to TuttoJuve, which has reported Juventus’s current stance on the former Leeds United midfielder.

So, what is being reported about Newcastle United and Kalvin Phillips? Let’s take a look.

Newcastle United boost in Kalvin Phillips transfer quest

Well, according to TuttoJuve, Newcastle United are the “only” club who are still in the race for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Italian news outlet has claimed that Juventus have dropped out of the race for the former Leeds United midfielder. The Italian giants cannot afford to sign Phillips.

TuttoJuve has reported that only Newcastle can “satisfy the player financially”. Phillips, who was described by Manchester City Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, on the club’s official website as “a formidable talent”, earns £150,000 per week (Spotrac).

My View: Newcastle United should bid for Kalvin Phillips

In my opinion, Newcastle United should do their best to get a deal done for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

City manager Pep Guardiola has publicly said that he would not stand in Phillips’s way if he wanted to leave.

Newcastle are a big and established club in the Premier League who played in the UEFA Champions League this season. The Magpies are aiming to end up in the top four this campaign as well.

Phillips may have failed to make a huge impact at City, but he was brilliant at Leeds, which is why he earned a move to the Citizens in the first place.

Sandro Tonali is banned now, so Phillips could replace him in the team. The English midfielder is 28 now and his best years are ahead of him. Even on a permanent deal, it would be worth it for Newcastle.
