Divock Origi could be set for a summer in the backseat as his move to Borussia Dortmund seemingly fell apart this week. The Belgian, who cost Liverpool £10 million from Lille in 2014, has struggled in recent years to remain in the first-team picture at Anfield.
Despite playing 43 times in 2016-17, scoring 11 goals, he was loaned out to Wolfsburg last season. This term he finds himself behind Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke in the pecking order.

With Liverpool ready to let him leave last summer, it was 12 months ago that Tottenham Hotspur were a shock candidate to sign him. As reported by the Telegraph, Spurs were keen on bringing the player to London. Tottenham were looking for back-up to Harry Kane and felt Origi was an option.
The player’s father, former Kenya international Mike Origi, even commented on the deal. It did always seem a long shot. Liverpool would be selling to a direct rival. In the end, Origi headed to VfL Wolfsburg and Tottenham signed Fernando Llorente.
“Divock has to leave Liverpool to get more playing time.
“Tottenham is a possibility, but there is also interest from France and Germany.”

One year on, how should Tottenham feel about not signing the player?
Based on the evidence from last season, Tottenham fans will not lose any sleep.
Origi did not have the best of seasons in Germany. He managed just six goals in 34 appearances for the club as they survived relegation in the playoffs.
Tottenham fans are probably still frustrated the club have not got what they perceive as adequate cover for Kane. But Origi? It seems he was not the answer.
