Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were the players who had put Dortmund 3-1 up on aggregate early on, a score that remained until half-time. Divock Origi pulled the Reds back into the tie just after, but a Marco Reus goal looked to have finished it.

Then, with 18 minutes left on the clock, Phillipe Coutinho pulled out another special goal, Mamadou Sakho diverted in a James Milner cross before Dejan Lovren climbed highest to head Liverpool to a 91st minute winner. It was one of the greatest comebacks the Anfield crowd had ever seen, and put Klopp well on the path to greatness.
