4. South Coast Stuffing: Southampton 1-6 Liverpool (01/12/15)
Now almost two months into the job, and with a stunning 4-1 win over Manchester City secured, Liverpool travelled to St. Mary’s for a Capital one cup tie against Southampton.
Just like in the Chelsea game, Liverpool fell behind to an early goal, scored by Sadio Mane, who would become Klopp’s biggest ever signing the next summer. The Reds responded with ruthlessness to this setback, though. Daniel Sturridge, back from injury, fired in two goals with a combination of staggeringly quick feet and an instinctive volley, assisted by a phenomenal pass from Emre Can. The Reds were 3-1 up by half time when Divock Origi deflected in an Alberto Moreno strike for his first Liverpool goal.
Origi then ran riot in the second half, finally showing fans what all the fuss was about, by completing a fabulous hat-trick. Jordon Ibe scored the other goal to send the team through to the semi-finals with staggering ease.
This win has since been beaten in terms of margin (6-0 at Aston Villa), but it was a sign of just how ruthless the Reds could be under Klopp.
