A year ago today saw Brighton and Hove Albion playmaker Pascal Gross discussing a potential transfer to Liverpool.
As reported by The Mirror in December 2018, Liverpool were reportedly considering a £15 million bid for the playmaker.
Gross was obviously pleased at the link, as he expressed in an interview with Goal.
“Of course it is an honour when such rumours arise, but I have not heard anything concrete.”
The link seemed odd but based on Gross’ first season in the Premier League, it was clear why Liverpool might have been keen.
The German had a stellar debut campaign in the Premier League, scoring seven goals and assisting eight for the newly-promoted Seagulls. It was that sort of form that initially appeared to attract Liverpool and countryman Jurgen Klopp’s interest.

However, one year on, there is surely no chance of renewal in Liverpool’s interest.
Firstly, the Reds have moved on to an even higher plane with their sensational season. Meanwhile, Gross is not at the level he first was when arriving into English football.
The 28-year-old had an injury disrupted campaign last term and this season has also been more of a struggle. New manager Graham Potter initially had faith in him, but Gross has been spending an increasing amount of time on the Brighton bench.
A year on from his comments, and a move from Liverpool now seems extremely unlikely.
