One year ago, Leeds United were being linked with a move for talented centre-back Luca Murphy. The teenager was a free agent having left Hartlepool by mutual consent after a January deal to Fulham had fallen through.
As reported by TEAMtalk, Leeds were one of several teams interested in signing the talented youngster.
However, they were left wanting, as Fulham finally did get hold of their man. Murphy joined the Cottagers just weeks later. It was a controversial deal, with Hartlepool furious, as reported by the BBC. The club’s chief executive Mark Maguire told the club’s official website that the player, his agent and Fulham left a ‘lot to be desired’.
So are Leeds United missing out?
It does seem as though Fulham have snapped up a potential gem.
The 18-year-old has been a star for the club’s under-18 side this season. Things started very impressively, with two assists in his first two games from centre-back.
He has become a regular and has lost just one game in the under-18 Premier League with Fulham, who are top of their section of the league.
It seems Murphy has a future in the game and Leeds will be disappointed that they never managed to secure his signature.
