One year after Everton were reportedly quoted £31m for his services Andrija Zivkovic is available for nothing

Last summer saw Everton being linked with a potential move for Andrija Zivkovic. It was first reported by A Bola in December 2018 that Everton had been tracking the Serbian attacker for a number of months and that a move could be on the cards for the summer.

Last June, CM Jornal reported that Benfica informed Everton that they could have the winger, if they paid the asking price of €35 million (£31m) for his services.

It seemed an exorbitant amount to pay for a player who had played just 16 games in the previous season. The talented forward seemed worth a gamble, but at that price, it was a nonsensical move.

So Everton backed away and Zivkovic remained at Benfica. Once again the 17-cap international struggled with injury and fitness, eventually playing just four games and registering no goals or assists.

But the news this week that he is now available for nothing might just have Everton interested yet again.

Benfica have released the 24-year-old as they cut costs to balance the books after an impressive summer in the transfer market so far.

Zivkovic, who is now fit and ready to play regular football, is therefore available on a free transfer.

Everton have been searching for a left-footed wideman for a number of transfer windows now and here is one they targeted previously who is suddenly available for nothing.

Sure, he would not be the most exciting acquisition for fans but clearly there is somebody at Everton who is a fan of the player.

In the current market, turning their nose up at such an opportunity is simply not an option for Everton.

At the very least, it is a subject the club will have to consider.
