Liverpool have finally seemed to solve their problem position and have agreed on a deal worth £67 million with AS Roma for their Brazilian goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, according to the Telegraph.
If the deal does go through, which it is almost certain to do, Liverpool will have one of Europe’s most highly rated goalkeepers between their sticks; a mouth-watering prospect for the Anfield faithful.
However, the news will come as a kick in the teeth for their current number one Loris Karius, who had been in pole position to resume his position until his Champions League final nightmare.
Since Pepe Reina’s departure in 2014, the Reds have been craving to have a top talent in their goal and it finally looks like they will have one of the world’s hottest prospects between their sticks.
Despite the obvious huge transfer fee, Liverpool could have the Brazilian in their goal for many years to come, an investment which seems like it will pay off.
Alisson was Liverpool’s top transfer target going into the summer transfer window and if they manage to tie the deal down, it again shows their intent to do big things next season.
Loser: Loris Karius
It looks as if Karius will never be able to live down his Champions League final performance last season, where his two errors cost Jurgen Klopp’s side the game.
Now it seems like Klopp has landed his favoured keeper in Alisson, Karius’ future with the Reds is bleak, to say the least.
The German shot stopper will now be resigned to pitting it out with the Reds other goalkeeping option Danny Ward for the option to be Alisson’s number two.
