Reports this week in the German outlet DeichStube claim Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen is set for a cut-price transfer to Werder Bremen this summer.
The former Ajax midfielder failed to make his mark at Goodison Park, yet will now be gifted a chance to kickstart his career in the Bundesliga.
However, the news comes as a blow to the finances of the Merseyside club as Everton prepares for a substantial loss.
Winner – Davy Klaassen
Not many players recover from seasons as poor as Klaassen’s 2017/18 campaign.
Brought in following his impressive 2016/17 year with Ajax, the Dutchman hoped to flourish under the stewardship of countryman Ronald Koeman.

Yet Koeman was swiftly sacked and Klaassen went on to make just seven Premier League appearances for the Toffees, never once completing the full 90 minutes in the league.
It has been an extremely troubled spell to say the least, which makes Werder Bremen’s reported bid a tantalising offer for the midfielder.
A chance to start anew in the Bundesliga with an established German club is a golden opportunity for Klaassen to revive his footballing career and move on from his Merseyside nightmare.
“He had a difficult start at Everton, that was disappointing. He had trouble with the aggressiveness and the tempo.”
Looking back on the purchase in April, Koeman admitted his disappointment with the midfielder’s performances in England.
Loser – Everton’s finances
Last summer’s ill-fated transfer splurge featured a number of poor acquisitions, but the purchase of Klaassen for around £23 million appears to be the worst of the lot.
After his anonymous year at Goodison, Klaassen’s market value has dropped precipitously to between £11.6 and 12.5 million. The new fee represents a damaging loss for Everton, as they will lose more than half of what they paid for the Dutch midfielder.
Seven Premier League appearances, zero goals, and zero assists later, Everton’s misguided gamble on Davy Klaassen appears likely to take a significant chunk out of their finances.
