One winner, one loser as West Ham United draw 1-1 with Liverpool

Liverpool dropped valuable points at the London Stadium last night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United.

The Reds took the lead through Sadio Mane; but found themselves pegged back shortly after when Michail Antonio rounded off a neatly taken set-piece drill.

It wasn’t a great night for Jurgen Klopp’s side who struggled to reach top gear against a hard-working Hammers outfit.

The result means that the Reds will relinquish top spot should Manchester City defeat Everton on Wednesday evening.

Following the stalemate, The Boot Room looked at one winner and one loser from the Premier League contest.

Winner – Declan Rice

Liverpool may have waited some time to get their hands on Naby Keita’s signature but the midfielder was outshone by Rice during last night’s draw.

The 20-year-old has come of age this season and looks set for a really bright future in the game.

Rice is one of those midfielders that does everything without any sort of fuss and Liverpool would have loved him within their ranks on a frustrating night for Klopp’s midfielders.

On this showing, West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini will have a really tough challenge to keep hold of their star man come the summer.

Loser – Jurgen Klopp

Klopp cut a frustrated figure at the end of a pulsating, yet ultimately frustrating contest for his team.

The German boss appeared to be unhappy at the officials following the game; despite Liverpool’s goal coming from a clearly offside James Milner’s cross into the box.

The Reds boss told BBC Sport: “I heard our goal was offside, I’m pretty sure the ref knew that.

“As a human being, if I know I have made a big mistake in the first half, I don’t want to open the gap any more.”

Klopp won’t be under any real pressure from the club’s hierarchy given that the club has progressed since his arrival.

Having led for so long this season, however, not winning the title this time around would surely sting.
