Tottenham Hotspur are threatening to finish the 2019/20 season with a whimper.
The north London giants are languishing in 10th place in the Premier League table, and take on in-form bitter rivals Arsenal on Sunday.
Spurs have struggled to get any kind of momentum going this term, with Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement Jose Mourinho already coming under pressure.
Few, if any Spurs players have stood out this season, although Steven Bergwijn has offered some exciting glimpses following his arrival in January.
Another individual who arrived in January was one Gedson Fernandes – a player who could really do with a strong finish to the season.
The young Portuguese midfielder has been unable to break into the starting XI since arriving at the club on an 18-month loan deal from Benfica, making just six Premier League appearances so far.
He’s yet to start in the competition, and fans are beginning to wonder if he’ll come good.
Brought in on Mourinho’s watch, Gedson is approved by the current manager, and it’s probably about time he showed exactly why he has been signed.
TBR’s view – Gedson must show his promise
Just four games remain for Spurs this season and it’ll be important for Gedson to start performing following a sluggish start.
Admittedly, it hasn’t been easy for him given the lack of minutes afforded to him by Mourinho.
But he has to find a way to prove himself to keep the doubters at bay.
Gedson is a talent, and fans would love to see him show the level required for the club to exercise their reported €50 million/£42.76 million option to buy (Sky Sports).
The club are said to be interested in Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, so the motivation is there for the playmaker to turn things around.
