‘One thing I would say’… Journalist makes interesting claim about Kylian Mbappe and Arsenal now

Kylian Mbappe is now in the final six months of his contract at PSG, and that may put Arsenal on alert.

The French striker is undoubtedly the hottest property in world football, and now that he’s allowed to negotiate with foreign clubs to sign a pre-contract agreement, we can imagine that every Sporting Director in Europe is considering their next move very carefully.

Arsenal have long been linked with Mbappe ever since he was a teenager, and while that deal has looked so unlikely for the longest time, Arsenal’s recent resurgence may have put them back into this race.

Speaking on The Arsenal Beat Podcast, Sam Dean has touched on the idea of Mbappe going to Arsenal, and while he conceded that this transfer is unlikely, he did note that the player himself may be intrigued by a move to Arsenal.

Mbappe could be keen on Arsenal

Dean shared his verdict on the idea of Mbappe heading to the Emirates.

“Shall we do it, shall we address the Mbappe issue? I think everyone knows that isn’t going to happen due to the wages he would demand and the structure Arsenal have in place. Yes there’s no transfer fee, but I imagine the signing fee would be substantial to sign Mbappe as a free agent,” Dean said.

“But let’s suspend the financial reality for a moment. One thing I would say about the Mbappe situation is that if he’s looking around Europe for clubs he could go to, there aren’t many, and I think Arsenal would be very much on the list of appealing ones. A young, up-and-coming squad, in Europe, there’s the Thierry Henry factor, there’s a lot there in Arsenal’s favour. That pull is enormous right now, but I think the wages alone would be mind-boggling, so I can’t see that one happening, but the idea of Mbappe looking around Europe and seeing Arsenal as an intriguing one is an intriguing point to make.”

Worth it

Mbappe would undoubtedly break all sorts of wage structures and financial plans that Arsenal have in place, but it’s hard to argue he wouldn’t be worth it.

Make no mistake about it, the World Cup winner is one of the very best players of this generation, and he would transform this Arsenal team overnight.

At the age of just 25, he’d still have insane resale value in a few years’ time, and while the wages would be extortionate, that money could be recouped with a sale later on.

Maybe, just maybe, this is a race Arsenal may want to get involved in.
