Newcastle-linked striker deemed 'one of the biggest talents' of his league in 2020, truly 'outstanding'
There may well be a sense of elation from those associated with the club if Newcastle United can complete a deal for Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard after the Geordies were linked with a move for the Frenchman.
The France youth international once earned praise of the highest order from a couple of Scottish pundits for his performances for the Bhoys right at the start of the league season.
Darryl Broadfoot labelled the 23-year-old as ‘one of the biggest talents’ that had been seen in Scotland for ‘many, many years’. Meanwhile, John Hartson claimed to be a huge fan of the centre-forward whilst calling him an ‘outstanding player.’
And on the face of it, the praise seems justified with Edouard producing strings of sensational performances since moving to Parkhead in the summer of 2018.
83 goals and 37 assists across 168 games in all competitions is a record that speaks for itself and with eight trophies to go with his attacking contributions, the young forward has lit up Glasgow since his arrival.
His performances have seen fans grow fond of him, and it seems the feeling’s mutual with Edouard now claiming he loves life in the northern country.
According to Daily Record, the northeast outfit are keen on making a move for the ace, alongside Leicester City, Aston Villa and Arsenal.
Could the former Paris Saint Germain forward be the player to bag a bundle of goals for the St James’ Park team?
Well, Callum Wilson came from Bournemouth last summer following their relegation to the Championship and has scored 12 times in just 26 Premier League outings. But, at the age of 29 and with a sketchy injury record, there can’t be too much reliance on the ace. Meanwhile, despite his recent upturn in form, Joelinton has proven to be a £40m flop.
So, links with Edouard seem fully justified and the star could well be the man to plug the hole in the final third.
