'One of the best full-backs': Reported £40m Spurs target now on 10 assists and 2 goals for season
Tottenham Hotspur have heavily been linked with Sporting CP’s Pedro Porro in recent weeks.
In November, Jornal de Noticias claimed Spurs were one of several clubs eyeing the right-back.
And according to CM Sport, Spurs could be willing to forgo the 50 percent economic rights they have in Marcus Edwards in order to facilitate a move for Porro.
With the January transfer window looming, speculation linking Tottenham and Porro is likely to intensify further.
And any Spurs fans now following the player’s displays will have loved what they saw from him on Thursday night.
Porro won the Man of the Match award as he registered a goal and an assist in the 3-0 Primeira Liga win over Pacos de Ferreira.
The 23-year-old now has 10 assists and two goals from 21 outings in all competitions this term.
‘Everyone knows Porro now’
Porro reportedly has a £40million clause. And Sporting manager Ruben Amorim admitted his club is powerless to hold onto him if a suitor triggers said clause.
Porro told Portuguese news outlet Record after Thursday’s match: “Everyone knows Porro now, it’s impossible not to look at him as one of the best full-backs. I’ve already mentioned the club’s idea to him.
“If they beat the clause it will be impossible, until then I hope to count on him. He has the capacity to take the ball forward.
“With Porro, our football already passes through him so much, we have to work without dramas, it would be difficult to replace him during the season.
When asked about Manchester City’s buyback clause, he added: “That Porro clause is not €18m, I have information. It’s club stuff, I won’t tell you. I don’t want mine to come off, the rest is indifferent.”
Tottenham need improvements at RWB
It is no secret that Antonio Conte could do with bringing in reinforcements at right wing-back.
Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty haven’t exactly dazzled for Tottenham this season.
Meanwhile, Conte doesn’t seem as though he fully trusts Djed Spence with regular game time just yet.
With all that in mind, it makes sense for Spurs to be looking elsewhere. And Porro seems like a good shout for Conte.
