One injury to Wolves in midfield could derail momentum

Wolves fans will be pleased with their return to the top flight so far this season, picking up 15 points from their opening nine Premier League games.

They had an off day in the 2-0 defeat to Watford at the weekend, but overall have adjusted very well to the step up in class and look like they can stay well clear of relegation trouble.

A huge part of their success has been their quality in midfield, where the Portuguese pairing of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho have struck a formidable partnership.

Both are playmakers with an exceptional range of passing and an injury to either could spell trouble at Molineux, as they simply don’t have the same quality in reserve to step in.

Some Wolves fans are even dreaming of pushing for a European spot this campaign, but that will be a difficult stretch if they lose a key midfielder and their early season momentum could be halted.

Manager Nuno Espirtio Santo doesn’t have the strongest of squads at his disposal and strengthening that area could be a good target for January.

Upcoming talent Morgan Gibbs-White, Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker are all first-team options that could fill a role in the centre of the park if required.

But Wolves don’t currently have a central midfielder putting pressure on the starting pair and that could come back to bite them if they are dealt an injury setback.
