'On their radar': West Ham could try to sign 'special' England player at the 'very last minute' - journalist

West Ham United retain an interest in Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and want to try and sign him before the deadline.

Journalist Dean Jones told Give Me Sport that the Hammers are plotting a swoop for the England international in the nick of time.

That perhaps suggests that they have other business they want to get on with first after signing Lucas Paqueta from Lyon.

West Ham need to put a squad together capable of improving their Premier League position as well as dealing with the demands of European football.

West Ham want Gallagher

He said: “If at the very last minute Gallagher was available, I think West Ham would be very happy to do it.

“He’s definitely been someone on their radar, so we’ll have to watch out for that one in the final days.”

Gallagher has started Chelsea’s last two games, but got sent off in the first half of their win over Leicester City on Saturday.

Patrick Vieira had Gallagher on loan at Crystal Palace last season and labelled the England international midfielder ‘special‘.

It seems Palace will also try and battle their London rivals to get Gallagher back to Selhurst Park before the transfer window slams shut.

It is a big few days ahead for the midfielder, who still harbours hopes of going to the World Cup later this year, but needs to be playing regularly to impress Gareth Southgate.
