'On the cards': Journalist claims Tottenham will extend 'incredible' talent's contract

Tottenham Hotspur are planning to trigger Troy Parrott’s one-year contract extension, according to The Athletic‘s Charlie Eccleshare.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Spurs and has long been tipped for a bright future in the game.

Back in 2019-20, plenty of fans were calling for Jose Mourinho to play Parrott during their crisis up front.

The then-Spurs boss resisted those calls, which in hindsight was a good decision, as the youngster needed time to develop.

Parrott, whose Tottenham contract is set to expire in 2023, enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at MK Dons last time out.

He made 47 appearances in all competitions, registered 10 goals and seven assists, and helped the team reach the playoffs.

“Troy is class,” fellow Dons on-loan player Conor Coventry told MK Citizen in March.

“Obviously, I played with him before so I know his quality.

“I’m not surprised by how good he is.

“The way he’s been working for the team has been incredible, and it shows that he is still developing and learning.

“He’s a quality player and I’m just happy to play with him every week.”

“Lot of success last season”

In the latest ‘Tottenham mailbag’, a Spurs fan asked Eccleshare and Jack Pitt-Brooke what Antonio Conte’s plans were for Parrott, Dane Scarlett and Alfie Devine.

“For Parrott, another Championship loan is very much on the cards,” replied Eccleshare.

“With Spurs planning to trigger the one-year extension on his contract to take him to 2024.

“Swansea City, Middlesbrough, Preston North End and Queens Park Rangers are among the interested clubs.

“As for who I think would be most suitable for him, he did really well at MK Dons, as part of Liam Manning’s expansive team who made the League One play-offs.

“That makes me think Norwich City could work quite well. Especially given how well (Oliver) Skipp did on loan there in the same division the season before last.

“Teemu Pukki has the striker position nailed down. But Parrott had a lot of success last season from the flanks and deeper central positions.”
