'On the bench': £22m Tottenham player now likely to be a substitute in NLD tomorrow - pundit

Paul Merson expects Antonio Conte to put Son Heung-min on the bench for Tottenham against Arsenal.

Son had struggled in the early part of the season and he was a substitute for Tottenham’s last Premier League game against Leicester.

He came off the bench in that game to fire in a rapid hat-trick in a 6-2 win, scoring his first goals of the season and offering a reminder of his quality.

But Merson told SportsKeeda he thinks Conte will bench the £22 million (Guardian) South Korean international for the north London derby.

Merson thinks Son will be on the bench for Tottenham against Arsenal

He said: “This is a game that never lets you down. There are certain other games in the Premier League calendar where we build them up and they disappoint, but that is never the case with this fixture.

“The way they’re playing at the moment, I don’t see Tottenham being able to beat Arsenal. They did defeat Leicester by a 6-2 margin the other day, but the scoreline flattered them in my opinion.

“Son Heung-Min hasn’t done well when he’s started games so far this season, and Antonio Conte might use him as an impact player to turn to on the bench.”

It would be a huge call for Conte to leave Son out of one of the biggest games of the season on the back of a hat-trick last time out.

The decision could be made for him with multiple outlets including the Evening Standard reporting that Dejan Kulusevski is an injury doubt for the game.

If the Swede misses out, Son will definitely be recalled to the side in what is yet another huge north London derby, which is so tough to call.
