‘Omg’, ‘please just get it done’: Some Liverpool fans react after hearing who reportedly wants to join

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to give their thoughts on the Sky Sports report claiming Timo Werner is ready to join the Reds, but the Anfield side isn’t planning to meet his release clause by its expiry date.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the RB Leipzig striker, who has been in superb form this season, netting 27 goals and registering 12 assists in just 36 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt).

Since joining Leipzig from Stuttgart in the summer of 2016, Werner has claimed an impressive 88 goals and 39 assists in 150 competitive appearances, as well as winning 29 Germany caps with 11 goals scored in the process (Transfermarkt).

The 24-year-old has previously described Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as “the best coach in the world”, was flattered by reported interest in him from the Premier League leaders, and believes the Reds’ style of play would him (Viasport).

The latest Sky Sports report claims that Werner is ready to sign for Liverpool if they pay his £52million release clause before it expires on 15 June, but the Reds do not intend to move for him by that date, with The Express saying they’re likely to shelve all transfer plans until after normality has resumed.

Werner has made no secret of his admiration for Liverpool and Klopp, so it’s little surprise that reports continue to link him with a move to Anfield – not to mention his talents and CV suggest he would make their attacking ranks even more fearsome.

However, given the uncertainty in every aspect of football – not least financial – caused by the global health crisis, it would be completely understandable were Liverpool to keep all transfer plans on the backburner until the coast is a little more clear.

What do Liverpool fans make of the report? Here is some of the social media reaction:
