Ollie Watkins has told Rio Ferdinand in an interview on his YouTube channel that Declan Rice is a Rolls-Royce after getting to work with the West Ham star while on international duty.
Watkins was recently handed his first call-up to the England squad after a stunning campaign with Aston Villa. He has scored 12 goals in his debut season in the Premier League.
He marked the call-up with a goal on his debut for the Three Lions. But the break also presented the 25-year-old with the chance to work more closely with some of the country’s best players.
And when asked which players surprised him while he was away with Gareth Southgate’s squad, he named Rice amongst three.
“Phil Foden, he was silky, his balance, just gets out of tight situations where he makes it look easy,” he told Rio Ferdinand on his YouTube channel.
“Mason Mount, another one. Consistent, he was always top in training. Never gives the ball away, just makes things look easy.
“Declan Rice, I think is massively underrated. He’s like a Rolls-Royce.”
Rice has enjoyed an outstanding time with West Ham. His form has proved pivotal in putting David Moyes’s side in an amazing position in the race for the top four.
What is frightening about Rice’s form is he is only 22 years of age. He has already made almost 130 Premier League appearances for the Hammers and he is well on his way to becoming one of the very best midfielders in the division.
Watkins meanwhile, will be setting his sights on joining the likes of Rice and Foden in England’s squad this summer.
