Olivier Giroud says he's similar to Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane

Olivier Giroud has gone from strength to strength since Arsenal sold him in 2018, and he has now claimed that he’s very similar to Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane.

The Frenchman, who joined AC Milan from Chelsea in a £1.7 million (ESPN) deal last year, has been exceptional for club and country. He won the Serie A last season and is now France’s highest-ever goalscorer after surpassing Thierry Henry a few days ago.

Olivier Giroud says he’s similar to Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane

It’s France vs England in the quarter-finals of the World Cup next, and London rivals of the past – Kane and Giroud – will go head to head as they aim to knock each other’s side out.

The Tottenham striker has been the best in his position in the Premier League for a few years now. His numbers in front of goal have been sensational, and he is the definition of a prolific goalscorer.

Giroud doesn’t quite score as many goals, but he’s incredible at what he does too. That’s why managers like Arsene Wenger and Didier Deschamps have always believed in him, and he’ll be key for France on Saturday.

Speaking ahead of the game, Giroud was asked about Kane. He said, as quoted by The Metro: “I spoke about him [Kane] with (Hugo) Lloris.

“We are similar in terms of profile and physical strength. Kane scores goals and is involved in England’s play, they’ve had a good tournament and it will be a nice game.”

As good a goalscorer as Kane is, he has only scored once at the World Cup in Qatar. Giroud, on the other hand, has managed three – only Kylian Mbappe has scored more goals in the entire competition (5).

The Tottenham star, however, has three assists to his name. He has been integral in all of England’s victories in Qatar so far, and he will have to be at his best when the two sides meet this weekend.

Giroud has a point when he says they’re similar with respect to their profile and physicality. Both strikers are good with their back to goal and are more than capable of dropping deep and linking play up.

Kane, however, is the better passer and goalscorer, but it will all mean nothing if Giroud, already a World Cup winner, beats England and goes on to win another title this month.
