Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has reportedly rejected an offer to move to Newcastle United.

According to Sky Sports, the World Cup-winning star will not be moving up north this month, meaning Newcastle now face a scramble to find another centre-forward before Friday’s deadline.

The Magpies were recently linked with the Frenchman (Northern Echo), with Steve Bruce supposedly having doubts about Joelinton’s ability to score goals regularly.

United could be in for a relegation battle, and therefore need to be able to rely on someone to provide the goods up top.

But it looks as though they’ll now have to look elsewhere, meaning it could perhaps now be advantage Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have also been linked with a surprise move for the 33-year-old (Sky in Italy), with talisman Harry Kane out injured for most of the rest of the season.

Giroud turning Newcastle down could now leave the club in the clear over the ex-Gunner.

TBR’s view – Newcastle’s loss, Tottenham’s gain?

Giroud rejecting Newcastle could be the catalyst for him to make a sensational move to Spurs.

There is reportedly interest from Lazio, but The Daily Mail say Giroud would prefer to remain in London, which does point to a possible cross-city move to Spurs.

He could be a really good addition for Spurs and potentially, Newcastle’s loss.

Giroud, who cost the Blues a reported £18 million (BBC Sport), has proven over the years he knows how to score goals in the Premier League – he has 78 in the competition so far since arriving in 2012.

Newcastle have been a bit toothless once again in attack in 2019/20, so Giroud’s rejection will no doubt serve as a frustration for Bruce, especially since he likely would have given him the regular minutes he craves.
