Oliver Skipp highlights Jose Mourinho’s personal touch at Tottenham during Norwich loan

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho has won the praise of young midfielder, Oliver Skipp, who is spending time out on loan with Norwich City this season.

Skipp, 20, looked like he might be in for a big season with Spurs this season after a number of appearances last term. However, Mourinho decided the midfielder would be better used out on loan, following a summer of spending.

So far, it’s looking like it’s working out well for Skipp. The youngster has been a revelation, being Norwich’s player of the month for September.

And Skipp has spoken highly of Mourinho despite being sent out on loan, insisting the Portuguese coach is in regular contact with him.

“He’s kept in regular contact with me,” the 20-year-old told the Eastern Daily Press.

“He spoke to me just before I went, wishing me well, and a couple of times since. So it’s really nice that they’re still keeping in touch and seeing how I’m progressing. But from a personal point of view, really nice but I would have preferred a few more points rather than Player of the Month!”

Skipp will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Harry Winks and Harry Kane, who bided their time before becoming regulars for the Premier League side.

Indeed, Kane had a spell with Norwich himself back in the 2012/13 campaign, although it proved fruitless for the now England skipper.

It’s nice to see a player recognising a manager for being interested in their development and this should bode well for Skipp over his time with Spurs.

Mourinho will give players a chance if they are good enough. Skipp, then, will benefit massively from a spell in the Championship with regular football behind him.
