Oliver Burke comments on Celtic loan spell after Alaves move

Oliver Burke has suggested that his time at Celtic was significantly different to what he is currently experiencing out on loan with Alaves, in comments reported by the Evening Times.

Burke joined the Hoops for the second-half of last season after struggling at West Brom. And he made a bright start with the Bhoys, bagging a brace on his Scottish Premiership debut.

However, his spell had fizzled out by the end of the campaign. His last goal for the club came in February, and there seemed to be few calls from the supporters for the winger to extend his stay.

Burke returned to the Hawthorns in the summer. But he was quickly on the move once again, with La Liga side Alaves also taking him on a temporary basis.

It has been an encouraging start to life in Spain for Burke. He has made four top flight appearances, and provided his first assist in the league during a seven-minute substitute appearance.

And with Burke now settling in, he outlined the key differences between Alaves and being at Celtic.

“How does it compare to Glasgow?” he said, as reported by the Evening Times. “I would say it is nowhere near the same to be honest. The pressures at Celtic are sky high, while the pressures at Alaves are almost none.

“I loved my time at Celtic, I made some friends for life, and that was a loan too,” he added. “This is a smaller city, the fanbase isn’t as huge, but the most important thing is to play football. You can walk down the street and not get pestered the way you would in Glasgow.”

It appeared to be a major coup when Celtic landed Burke. While he had struggled with the Baggies, his potential was highlighted by West Brom’s decision to spend £15 million on him in the first place (fee reported by BBC Sport).

He did prove to be an underwhelming addition, and it was little surprise that he fell out of favour by the end of the season.
