Rangers fans Oli McBurnie took to Twitter following the Gers’s 4-0 victory over St Johnstone to laud Jermain Defoe after the striker bagged a quick fire brace to wrap up the win.
Steven Gerrard’s men remain within three points of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership. They had gone into the break level with Tommy Wright’s men. But they produced a superb second-half display.
Alfredo Morelos scored shortly after the interval, and Connor Goldson doubled the lead on the hour. And it was Defoe who made the points safe with goals in the 88th and 90th minute.
The Englishman produced a thumping finish into the bottom corner for his first goal, while his second came after some good work on the edge of the six-yard box to get the better of two St Johnstone defenders.
Defoe now has eight goals in all competitions this season. There is no question that he has been a fantastic signing for the Light Blues. And McBurnie – who joined Sheffield United in a £20 million deal this summer (via BBC Sport) – took to social media to laud the 36-year-old…

It is exciting for Rangers that they have a player as prolific as Defoe to bring off the bench for Morelos. Before Defoe’s arrival, it did appear that the club could rely on the Colombian a little too much at times.
But with the pair both in great form, and with plenty of their teammates also contributing goals, it is not difficult to see why plenty are expecting the Gers to push Celtic all the way this season.
